Rooibos (pronounced ROY-boss) is a naturally caffeine-free herbal tea made from the leaves of the Aspalathus linearis plant, found only in the Cederberg region of South Africa. The History of Rooibos
Rooibos, meaning “red bush” in Afrikaans, has deep roots in South African soil, literally and historically. Grown exclusively in the Cederberg mountains of the Western Cape, this naturally caffeine-free plant has been part of local tradition for centuries.
The indigenous Khoisan people were the first to harvest and brew rooibos, valuing it for its soothing properties and rich flavor. In the early 1900s, a botanist named Dr. Pieter Le Fras Nortier began cultivating rooibos commercially, helping transform it from a regional remedy into a global wellness favorite.
